Thanet Roadrunners take on Brighton & Paris Marathons 2015

The London Marathon, which takes place on the 26th  April, maybe the race that most members of the general public associate with the running of the 26.2 mile distance. However, last weekend, members of Thanet Roadrunners AC took part in two very popular marathons either side of the English Channel….in Brighton and Paris.  All members did exceedingly well, coming in with some fantastic performances, most notably Bradley Cameron coming under the 3 hour time in 2 hours 58 minutes and 39 seconds at the Brighton Marathon.

9,426 people started the Brighton marathon in what were really warm sunny conditions with a bit of a cool wind from the sea.  Among the runners were both top athletes and charity runners taking part and raising millions of pounds for good causes. Thousands of spectators lined the streets to cheer on the runners helped in no small part by the weather.

Bradley Cameron who broke the 3 hour marathon barrier for the first time said,' The race went according to plan.  I couldn't be happier with the time.  I just don’t know how I’m ever going to beat that time again!

Thanet Roadrunners Results are as follows

Bradley Cameron 02:58:39
Sarah Harmes     03:43:32
Sara Sutton         03:51:41

Nannette Miles    05:01:34

Across the Channel, Andy Carter and Helen Spain both took in the Paris Marathon. Approximately 45,000 runners took part in this race, the equivalent size of the London Marathon itself.  Conditions like Brighton were sunny and the route took the runners past famous landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame Cathedral and even underground tunnels with discos
Helen Spain who broke the four hour barrier for the distance said, 'It was very busy and people were dropping like flies from about 12 miles onwards. Clearly loads of people were not honest about their predicted starting time - as I overtook so many people.  The used orange segments and banana skins were a little hazardous around the fuel stations.'
'I was pleased to complete my first “international” marathon…the weather was glorious, the route spectacular and I did still have a grin on my face as I crossed the finish line in 3 hours 58 mins.'

Thanet Roadrunners Results are as follows

Helen Spain      3hrs 58mins
Andy Carter      4hrs 5mins

On behalf of the club….jolly well done guys!
